To start off I am completely in love with my little angel Capri. She has brought me so much joy and I can't believe that I get to be her mommy. She is so beautiful and healthy. I am so grateful that she is healthy and I would go through anything for her. I wanted to write down the birth story while I had time. I should be sleeping...but I guess its good I write it down before I forget. So you don't have to read it just wanted to make sure I wrote it down for me. :) We love our little girl and are having such a blast being her parents. She is adorable and so sweet. I would do anything for her, she is amazing!
During my pregnancy I had some very strange medical issues that always were a scare and I would worry about my Little one, but it was always just something wrong with me luckily. I had some scares the first trimester, and then during the second trimester, I had a scare that I had breast cancer, doctors did many tests and I got an ultrasound and that turned out to be benign. I then got pleurisy (swelling of the lining of the heart- felt like a heart attack and the only thing that treats it is anti-inflammatory drugs or steroids neither can you take while pregnant.) So I had to take Tylenol and wait it out. I then had another scare in December and carpel tunnel has been acting up pretty bad because of the swelling that comes along with being pregnant. It hurts to type but on the bright side I finally had the push I needed to learn and train dragon so that I could get my work done, good thing too because it really does make a lot of my paperwork go a lot faster.
So for about 3-4 weeks I had contractions off and on and was moving along fairly quickly for a first time mom. It was not the funnest to be up all night with contractions that I was sure were going to become more consistent and then never did. So, on the 10th of March I was not quite sure if my water was broken or not...waited a couple hours and then I was pretty sure (Jer was convinced I just pee'd my pants). We went to the ER and sure enough it was a slow leak but it was broken! But alas, I was not having contractions this time, (yes crazy I know). So I was induced with pitocin at about 5 pm on the 10th. Capri was in distress a couple of times and I had to change positions. Jeremy came in and gave me a blessing which helped me through what would happen throughout child birth and then surgery. I am so grateful for the gospel and I have a very strong testimony of the priesthood and I now know that Heavenly Father was preparing me for what would happen. It truly is amazing. When it came time to push she was in distress with every contraction, the doctor and nurse were sure she had the cord around her neck. So after two and a half hours of pushing (with a couple breaks to watch to make sure Capri was doing okay) At about 2:20 am on March 11th Forceps were needed to get her out. Capri was born at 2:24 am 3/11/13 weighing 7 lbs 8 ounces and was 20 inches long. Oh! and what do you know, she had her hand by her neck and that is what was causing her to be in distress not the cord, the doctor and nurse were very suprised. Silly girl still loves to have her hands right by her face.
After holding her for an hour she was taken down to the nursery to get cleaned up and Jer went with her and met me in the room with her. I asked the nurses why I was still in so much pain that I felt like I was still in labor and they said "oh that's normal". I was on some strong drugs and still the pain got worse and worse. By about 5:30 am I was screaming in pain and could not stop. The nurses stated that they thought I had a hemorrhoid and that the doctor was in a meeting. I continued to scream for about 30 minutes and they tried to get me to stand up which I could not have done for anything in the whole world. I have never felt so much pain and I didn't understand what was happening. The doctor finally came in and assessed the situation at about 6 am ish and stated that I had a hematoma and would need surgery. I was moved to another room, given morphine and (fenagrin?) not really sure and then another strong drug and then even something else that just made me delirious, slurring words but still screaming in pain. Apparently when I was being moved rooms and in the elevator I told Jer to "get a gun" 7 times. I also kept asking why I wasn't passing out (which I think is the point of the gun, I swear I'm not suicidal I just wanted to pass out, probably was thinking if I got shot I could pass out and then I wouldnt be in pain, lol, and I don't remember saying it) Jeremy says he just looked at the nurse and didn't know what to say. So I waited for another 2 and a half hours for an epidural because both of the anesthesiologists were in c-sections. At first we were just told they were giving epidurals but after 2 hours Jer asked what it was taking so long. So I got a surgery dose of an epidural and went into surgery where they drained the hematoma that was the the size of hmm about 2 baseballs? I lost a lot of blood and had a hard day ahead of me, not able to move and Jeremy was such a good daddy taking care of our little angel, learning how to change diapers and everything. He was so sweet the whole time I was in pain reminding me that I would rather go through pain then have Capri be in pain or something be wrong with her and that she was perfect. It's really what got me through the whole experience. I am so grateful for a loving husband and father. He also said many prayers for me while I was waiting for surgery. Jeremy was also able to get a lot of work off which was soo helpful to have him around to help me as I really could not move much.
-side note: a hematoma is VERY rare apparently, the doctor who delivered Capri came and spoke with us and stated that she had been in practice for 22 years and never had a patient with one. They are VERY EXTREMELY painful and now labor seems like it was just easy peasy. I seriously would go through labor 50 times instead of going through the pain of a hematoma again. The nurses also very rarely see it obviously so when I was complaining they (I guess) assumed I was just being a wuss. When I was diagnosed I then had a nurse say "yeah that's when you know its a hematoma, when the patient just screams and no drug even touches the pain".
Since Capri has been born/come home she has become more and more fussy and gassy and I feel so bad when I can't help her and she is in pain. She doesn't regulate her temperature very well, and the Yesterday we switched formula's and it seems to be helping. I hope that it continues to help her and that we can all get some needed rest. She is very strong, has amazing reflexes and is so adorable. She has melted our hearts and we are so in love with her! I am so grateful that my mom has been able to help me with my work so I can be with my beautiful daughter and recover. Jeremy has helped so much around the house and been able to do well on his test that he had to take as well.
